About him
Hi. I don’t know where to start but here goes. I’m an optimist and I think wonderful shocks and surprises are as likely to occur as unpleasant ones. Why not 2025 for experiencing some good ones?
Though I’m between jobs at present, I’m financially stable and am currently taking advantage of this to write up a history doctorate as a mature student. My main career has been in policing, working as a crime analyst and intelligence officer.
I like playing sport and following professional sport (especially football and cricket). I also like country/coastal walks, ending in country/coastal pubs. I adore living in North Yorkshire, though I love my London roots and am also mad about Dorset (around half my relations live there, so I’ve been a frequent visitor). I love cooking Armenian cuisine, after learning a number of dishes from my Armenian mother. I like all food except cheese, and am still haunted by memories of a station sandwich shop that offered me a choice of brie & grape, ham & emmenthal, cheeseburger, three cheese crepe, salmon with cream cheese, or halloumi wrap. (I made do with a packet of scampi-flavoured fries.)
Other passions include listening to music (from Buddy Holly to Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gary Numan to Jessie Ware, Kate Bush to Harry Styles) and reading novels (Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, Agatha Christie). I also write poetry and songs, partly for pleasure and catharsis, partly for (thus-far-elusive) profit.
I'm fascinated by religion and politics, but I’m passionate about respecting those who disagree with my views. In an era of animosity and ‘cancelling’, I’m proud that most of my friends disagree with me in one or both areas. We believe that each other has good intentions and wants a better world, so differing on means to that end is not going to wreck a good friendship! Nor should it prevent a good relationship... So I don’t care if you’re Brexiteer or Remainer, believer or doubter, pro- or anti-‘vaxxer’: I only care if you have a warm heart, an open mind and a zest for life.
About his ideal match
I don't have too many set ideas about appearance, interests, etc. I think that making a 'connection' is the key. I do want to meet someone who is as tolerant of those who disagree with them on big issues as I hope I am. I would say again that I really want a woman with a warm heart, an open mind and a zest for life, and, to some extent, everything else is secondary.
That said, it might also help if you’re partial to a cheese-phobe who sings to his cat and dreams of Armenia winning the Eurovision Song Contest. If you are, please let me know, and you’ll soon find that beneath the veneer of an eccentric lurks a kind and caring man who’s very fond of fun and longs to love again with a whole heart.
